Market Ponders Budget And Crawls To Close
Trading crawled to a close on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday after quotation on overseas stocks was suspended until provisions in the Budget, presented by the Minister of Finance (Mr Lake) on Thursday evening, have been more clearly defined.
The chairman of all the New Zealand stock exchanges and the president of the Stock Exchange Association of New Zealand (Mr A. W. Macarthur) will have talks in Wellington on Monday with the Reserve Bank to determine the future pattern of trading in overseas stocks. Trading in overseas stocks will not be resumed until after Monday’s meeting. Meantime, the market pattern cannot be clearly defined. The New Zealand market firmed sharply yesterday on narrow range and very small turn-over.
