128 QUALIFY IN BOWLS
(N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL. The final stages of the national indoor bowling championships were reached yesterday when the 390 teams in the fours event completed their section games. E. Blackmore, of Southland, winner of the event in Dunedin in 1961, failed to qualify, as did the South Island championship runnerup of last year, P. Osborne. In all, 128 qualified for postsection play today. Of the 32 Canterbury rinks taking part, only 12 qualified. They were: K. Beddie, 1. Brown, A. Bumip, A. Cranston, P. Duncan, J. Elcock, A. Kissell, P. Logan, E. G. F. Smith, J. Stanway, G. N. Taylor, and G. W. Taylor.
Universities Make Change (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The Victoria University lock, C. D. Mantel), has withdrawn from the New Zealand Universities side to play the Lions in Christchurch next Wednesday. He will be replaced by P. Lindesay (Auckland). A. J. Banks (Lincoln) has been added to the reserves.
