TRAINING IN BIOLOGY
“Exciting As Space Travel” (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 17. Too many people were attempting to train in mathematics, physics and chemistry by comparison with biology, said Dr. E. G. Bollard, of the D-S.I.R?s Fruit Research Division today. Speaking to pupils, parents and teachers at the opening of a school science exhibition at Otahuhu College today, he said:
“A tradition has grown up in many schools that biology is a sissy or easy subject. How wrong this is. Modern biology is as far divorced from old-fashioned nature study as it is possible to be.
“Our attempts in biology to understand problems of life itself are every bit as exhilarating and exciting as space travel—and a lot more useI
