TAKING NO RISKS
(N.Z. Press Association! WELLINGTON, June 16. Because of the danger of counterfeiting it was unlikely the designs for the decimal currency bank-notes would be released to the public before their introduction next year, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said today.
“Basically, I would like to see as much information about them as possible, but I have to accept the validity of the arguments put forward by the Reserve Bank.” The only reason as far as he could see that the bank-note designs would not be released before introduction of decimal currency was the danger of counterfeiting.
“We have to protect the people,” he said. “I eannot help but be impressed with the Reserve Bank’s arguments that counterfeiting would be easy if the facsimile of the notes were released. “But I will make further inquiries as to whether some form of presentation of the notes can be published.”
