Long-Distance Proposal

(N.Z.P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, June 16.

A Halifax student, Alan Ruffman, in Nova Scotia, was too shy to propose marriage directly to Linda Christiansen, 500 miles away in New York State.

But he did pop the question—into a bottle which he dropped overboard from a ship in Hudson Bay. After 11 months and 4000 miles of bobbing across the Atlantic the bottle was washed ashore on a beach in Cornwall, and was found by a holidaymaker who mailed the proposal to Linda. One day recently Alan was surprised and delighted to get a telegram from Linda saying “yes.”
