ONE KILLED, MANY HURT
Accidents In Auckland (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 13. The St. John Ambulance Brigade described this morning as the worst this year for road accidents. Light rain fell in humid conditions. One man died near where a child was injured and six other persons were injured between 6.55 a.m. and 7.40 a.m. In addition to these an industrial accident in which a man lost two fingers made the early part of this morning “the worst 45 minutes we can remember,” said a St. John Ambulance official. The man who was killed was struck by a bus at the corner of the Great South road and Greenlane road at 7 a.m.
He was: John Shaw Paton, aged 71, a laboratory assistant, of Momona road. Greenlane. The Dominion’s road toll for May is now 61 after a recent death from injuries. To 4 p.m. today, 227 traffic deaths this year had been reported to the Transport Department An 88-y ear-old cyclist was injured when he was involved in a collision with a car in Great South road, Westfield, today. He is George Herbert Colledge, of 59 Anzac avenue, Otahuhu. He was admitted to the Middlemore Hospital with lacerations to the head and chest injuries. His condition tonight was giving concern.
