GRAVENEY BACK
Four Test Changes (.V.Z.P.A.-Rcultr—Copyright) LONDON. T. Graveney is back in the England team fqr the second test match against West Indies, which starts on Thursday at Lords. Graveney, G. Boycott, R. Illingworth and B. Knight replace D. Allen, D. Brown, E. Russell and M. J. K. Smith in the side beaten at Old Trafford. B. d’Oliveira, twelfth man at Manchester is again in the team and this time is almost certain to make his test debut The 12 are: M. C. Cowdrey (Kent captain), G. Boycott (Yorkshire), K. F. Barrington (Surrey), B. d’Oliveira (Worcestershire), T. W. Graveney (Worcestershire), K. Higgs (Lancashire), R. Illingworth (Yorkshire), I. J. Jones (Glamorgan), B. R. Knight (Essex), C. Milbum (Northamptonshire), J. M. Parks (Sussex), F. J. Titmus (Middlesex). The side will be better balanced than at Old Trafford, with four recognised allrounders, d’Oliveira, Illingworth, Knight and Titmus. One of these will almost certainly be twelfth man and It is likely to be a spinner, perhaps Illingworth, who played once last year against New Zealand. It was obvious that the selectors had to do something to improve the batting after the previous failures and they have achieved this without greatly weakening the bowling. Graveney probably clinched his place with a fine innings of 88 against Middlesex on Saturday. He has again been in fine form this season and averaged over 43 without scoring a century. Graveney will take part in his fifty-sixth test. The last was in Australia during the 1962-63 tour. He has not played for England in this country since 1962, when he finished with 114 against Pakistan at Nottingham. Mr A. Bedser, one of the selectors, said that the injury which kept Milbum out of the present match with Somerset was not serious and that he would be fit by Thursday.
