Hole In Road Plugged
CN.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 12. A 92-year-old 24in pipe carping water from the Wainuiomata catchment area to Wellington failed on Friday night and left a hole in the roadway on the Petone Esplanade. Into the hole fell the rear portion of a laden petrol tanker. The incident brought the local fire brigade, another tanker to take away the petrol, and gangs of local body and water supply authority engineers and workmen to the scene for a 12-hour job to restore services. The section of piping used to replace the broken piece is 90 years old. It came from the now disused “pipe bridge” at Petone.
Exile Group.—A band of 150 Cubans who fought in the abortive Bay of Pigs invasion of 1961, has formed an organisation to try to do it again.
