N.Z. CELLIST APPLAUDED
(N.Z.P.A. Reuter—Copyright) MOSCOW, June 3.
The New Zealand cellist, Ross Pople, was warmly applauded after his performance in the International Tchaikovsky Contest in Moscow yesterday, the Soviet news agency Tass reported. Pople is the first N-w Zealander to play in the contest. He played with inspiration and displayed good technique particularly in his rendition of a Bach piece and the Locatelli sonata, Tass said. The audience warmly applauded Pople when he finished, although it is a violation of the rules to do so.
