THE UNIVERSITY OF . WESTERN AUSTRALIA Applications are Invited for appointment to the CHAIR OF COMMERCE and the CHAIR OF MARKETING In the department of commerce. The salary for each chair is $A10,400 p.a. Superannuation will be similar to F.S.S.U. in both cases. Candidates may apply for either or both post(s). Research experience in business as well as academic fields will be taken into account in conjunction with formal qualifications in commerce subjects. The chair of commerce, which was created in 1961, will become vacant towards the end of this year following the resignation of Professor C. I. Savage to take up a chair of economics at the University of Leicester. The chair of marketing was established In 1965 as the second chair in the department. It has not yet been filled. At present there are also two chairs in the department of economics —economics (Professor I. Bowen) and economic history (about to be filled). The professor of commerce will be head of the department but arrangements could be made for the administrative work to be shared. He will be responsible for the development of degree courses in commerce within the faculty of economics and commerce. The course for the degree of bachelor of commerce covers particularly business administration, economics organisation, accounting, economic statistics and business finance. The professor of marketing will be concerned mainly with the theory and practice of marketing and will be expected to develop the subject to high academic standards. The appointment is intended to offer scope for research and honours level work and it is not envisaged that pass degree units in marketing will be offered in the immediate future.
