Rehearsal For New Ferry
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, June 3.
The new road-rail ferry, Aranui, underwent a dress rehearsal today for its first trip to Picton next Thursday morning. The Aranui left the floating dock and spent about an hour manoeuvring in Wellington harbour. A Railways Department official said the trials were satisfactory. They were a necessary preliminary before the vessel entered service.
The Aramoana, the other ship on the Wellington-Picton run, will go on the floating dock for its annual survey when the Aranui replaces it on the Picton run.
Both ships will make the 52-mile crossing from June 27.
