GOLD COAST WELCOME
130 Families From N.Z.
A New Zealand Association of the Gold Coast, Queensland, has recently been formed with about 130 families so far registered at Surfers Paradise.
Mr Jack Jacobs, the former prominent Canterbury cricketer, is the secretary, and writes:—
“Our president is Clem O’Connor, late of Auckland and Christchurch and well known in the world of Lion’s clubs and the treasurer is Phil Hollander, formerly of Christchurch.” Mr Jacobs say the association’s aim is to bring New Zealanders together, to help new arrivals “who may be a bit lonely for a while as we found out,” and to meet “Kiwis” here on vacation.
Three or four organised functions a year are planned including picnics, barbecues, fashion parades and launch cruises. Soon the association will welcome New Zealand bowlers attending the Gold Coast winter carnival in which bowls had 1700 entrants last year. Mr Jacobs’s address is 117 Old Burleigh road, Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia.
