“Junk Sculpture”
The secretary of the Western Australia Art Gallery Society (Mr C. N. Harris) has resigned in protest against the gallery’s purchase of a piece of “junk sculpture,” by the Sydney artist, Robert Klippel. “I’m sick of the rot the gallery is foisting on a gullible public," he said. “It’s not art at all—it’s a glorious practical joke on the public." Klippel specialises in works composed of pieces of scrap iron welded together.—Sydney, June 2.
