17 More Burglaries
Thirteen business premises and four houses were burgled in Christchurch during Thursday night and yesterday. Goods and cash to the value of £135 were stolen. So far there have been 33 burglaries reported in Christchurch this month. The sum of £42 in cash and a cheque for £lB were stolen from business premises in Phillips street, Linwood, and £37 worth of clothing from a house in Bishopdale. The sum of £l6 was taken from a house in Richmond.
A burglar alarm went off in business premises in the city area early yesterday, and a passer-by informed the police by telephone that he thought two men were in the premises. A large party of police was investigating the deaths of two children in Bryndwr. One patrol car was promptly at the scene, but the premises had exists on to three streets. It was some time before the police were able to surround the building and no trace of offenders was found. A man was arrested yesterday afternoon and will appear in the Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of stealing a radio from a shop. Another man was interviewed by detectives in connexion with thefts from shops.
