AUCKLAND, June 3.
An object believed to be the hull of the wrecked Kaitawa was pinpointed by H.M.N.Z.S. Inverell off Cape Reinga today, but naval divers were foiled in their attempts to get to it.,
Using its second sounder the Inverell found the object 5.2 miles west of the cape at 8.40 a.m., 30 minutes after reaching the search area.
Waves up to 15 feet and winds gusting to 30 knots prevented divers from making a second attempt in the afternoon.
