INCREASE IN WAGES
Sheet Metal Workers (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 3. Ranging from 4}d to 7|d an hour, increases in minimum wage rates are provided for in an award for New Zealand tinsmiths and sheet metal workers, released by the Arbitration Court.
The new rate for journeymen sheet meital workers and first-class welders is 8s 6id an hour. Journeymen holding a trade certificate will receive 8s 81 d an hour. The rates for youths range from £6 a week for those under 17 to £lO 15s for 20-year-olds. For female workers the rates range from £4 12s 6d for those under 17 to £lO 5s lOd for those over 21. The award incorporates a conciliation agreement and the wage provisions are retrospective to April 20.
