PRESLEY NOT ENGAGED
The singer, Elvis Presley, is not engaged, according to a letter received by the secretary of the Christchurch Elvis Presley Fan Club (Mrs B. Timpson).
When an Associated Press report of the engagement was printed In “The Press” of May 16, the club telephoned the singer’s home in Memphis, Tennessee. It was told there was no engagement To confirm that, the club wrote a letter.
In a reply received on Saturday, Mr V. Presley, father of the singer, denies the engagement and says none is planned. The fan club, started three years ago, now had 1040 members, both male and female, whose ages ranged from six to 75, Mrs Timpson said. The club sent a six-page newsletter to its members each month and organised groups to see Presley’s films.
