New Black Stud
An Aberdeen Angus stud has been, established on the Emu Plains property of Messrs C. G. Gardner and Sons at Waiau. The big drafts of young Corriedale ewes from this property have been a feature of the yarding at the Culverden ewe fair in recent years.
Already some 400 commercial cattle are being run on the property and for this herd cast-for-age cows have been purchased from Mount Peel.

the Robin May Trust of Waipawa, Hawke's Bay, which was established in 1918. Some of the females purchased for Emu Plains are by Elegance the 4th of Mangatoro, which was purchased at the National Aberdeen Angus sale in 1960 for 2250gns. The cows, all of which were in calf, were purchased for an average of 170gns and for prices up to 205gns, the heifers averaged 320gns and Emu Plains paid up to 345gns for them and the calves were bought for 170gns and 85gns each.
The cattle are all on the place now after being flown down from the north.
