The Town Planning Officer is also responsible to the Town Clerk for the administration of the Town Planning Department. QUALIFICATIONS: Preferably Town and Country Planning Degree or Diploma, membership of the Australian Planning Institute, and at least five years’ experience in a senior planning position. SALARY: $5700 to $6500 per annum. The successful applicant will be paid a salary within this range commensurate with his qualifications and experience. CONDITIONS: Four weeks’ annual leave, superannuation benefits, cumulative sick leave entitlements, travelling and removal expenses. (The Council would be prepared to contribute to the fares and removal expenses of the appointee on the basis of first-class rail fares for himself and family, plus reasonable removal expenses up to a maximum of $4OO, provided he enters into a bond to remain in the Council’s employ for a period of at least two years). A CHALLENGING CITY: Townsville is the largest provincial city in Queensland. It is the centre of commerce, industry and education in North Queensland. It’s present population of approximately 60,000 people is expected to grow at the rate of over 5 per cent per annum to 95.000 over the next 10 years. Its large industrial and commercial expansion, added to army and university development programmes, will provide an interesting challenge to any well qualified Town Planning Officer. FAMILY EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES: There is a wide choice of secondary schools, and the University College of Townsville provides degree courses at tertiary level.
