SUNDAY PLAY
“Fairy Tales Of New York”
The first of this year’s Sunday Theatre plays produced by the Canterbury Repertory Theatre Society, J. P. Donlevy's “Fairy Tales of New York,” will be staged at the Provincial Council Chambers tomorrow evening. This comedy is directed by Leo Jervis, and the cast includes Vincent Orange, Brian McDermott, Philip Oates, Neil Doleguy, Adrienne Lynch, and Karen Elliot. The stage director is Barbara McEachen, and Peter Rutledge will handle the lighting. “Fairy Tales of New York” is a delightful story. Each of the four acts has been composed as a complete experience: the linking theme is the “almighty dollar” —Donlevy concerns himself with the troubles that befall a man without it. The style of humour changes from act to act, from subtle, teasing humour to a smattering of farce and a palatable amount of pathos. Donlevy's wit and jocularity are nevertheless sharp and stinging.
