N.Z. Man Revisits Chinese Birthplace
For Mr A. L. Smith, livestock manager of Wright Stephenson and Company in Christchurch, who signed a contract in Shanghai for the supply of 300 stud Corriedale and Border Leicester sheep, the journey to Shanghai was like going home. He was born in Shanghai but left the city when he was a schoolboy.
Mr Smith said the Chinese manufacturing was amazing in its diversity and quality. Among the products were pianos and musical instruments the equal of Japanese instruments electronic equipment, cameras, radios, motor cars and bicycles. In stores patronised by the Chinese there seemed to be no lack of goods and the packaging was the equal of anything in the world. The people appeared extremely I industrious.
Mr Smith praised th* Chinese airline and trains.
Throughout his visit to th* country he had been treated with extreme courtesy by everyone. Mr Smith said.
