Under-Age Drinking
Sir, —There is one cure and one cure only for teen-age drinking: hit the offenders where it hurts most—in the pocket. £25 for the first offence and there would not be a second. Forget the hotelkeeper and barmen. I don’t want kids in my bar. —Yours, ANOTHER BARMAN. May 26, 1966.
Used-Tractor Imports
Sir, —I would like to inform Mr L. G. Fowler that not all used imported tractors have to be purchased on advertisement only. Having inspected some of these tractors, 1 find them to be in better condition, of lower hours, and cheaper than those available locally. They are also available for demonstration in the field.— Yours, etc., FARMER. May 27, 1966. Emergency Benefit Sir, —I read that “Disillusioned Nationalist” was “shocked” by the methods of the Social Security Department. Nice to see that he is “wrong” for a change.—Yours, etc., MISTAKEN. May 26, 1966. Rubbish Collection Sir, —Obviously, conditions vary according to locality. Here, in Ham road, the City Council “dustbinieri” have dealt with our rubbish for years; and not for a very long time have we had any cause for complaint either as regards maltreatment of dustbins or removal of the rubbish. —Yours, etc., ILAM. May 27, 1966.
Sir, —I heartily endorse “Housewife’s” complaint about rough handling of rubbish bins. Are the rubbish collectors so overworked and pressed for time that they have not time to return the bins the right way up on the footpath with the lid on? My bin is taken out on a trundler with the lid on. For two weeks running I have seen the collectors just throw the bin on the footpath on its side with the lid lying two or three yards away. One would think grown men would have more respect for other people’s property. Yours, ANOTHER HOUSEWIFE. May 27, 1966.
