WELLINGTON, May 27. The Federation of Labour was unlikely to move from its stand on
the Tongariro power project dispute, the federation’s secretary, Mr K. M. Baxter, said today. He said a letter sent to the federation by the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) reaffirming the Government’s attitude, would be considered at a F.O.L. executive meeting on Monday. “The executive will
only receive the letter. It can’t change the decision of the annual conference,” he said.
The conference earlier this month endorsed the executive’s action in demanding the withdrawal of a letter from the Government setting out some conditions for the employment of Italian labour al Tongariro. The conference also called for an assurance from the Government that it would not interfere in the negotiations.
