Lack Of Competition Disappointing
The decision not to hold competitions in 1966 had disappointed cadets everywhere, and all hoped that national competitions would be held again in 1967, said the cadet officer (Mr B. Thornton) in his report to the North Canterbury Voluntary Aid Detachment of the Red Cross Society. In May last year national cadet competitions were held at the School for the Deaf. Sumner. In the girls’ section, teams from Auckland, Hawke’s Bay, Wellington, Otago and North Canterbury competed for four cups. A cup had been presented by Commander H- Sanderson, of H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus, for local competition, said Mr Thornton.
Cadets had helped elderly and blind neighbours with shopping and others had assisted with street appeals.
