TOURISM AS SUBJECT
Educationist Rejects Idea (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 17. The compulsory study of tourism in secondary schools would over-crowd an already full curriculum, the Director of Secondary Education (Mr J. L. Hunter) said today. Mr Hunter was commenting on a recommendation made this week by the Travel and Holiday Association that the tourist industry should be a compulsory subject for Forms 111 and IV and a School Certificate examination option. Mr Hunter said a number of organisations suggest subjects for inclusion in the high-school syllabus, but there is not enough room to cater for every suggestion. Pupils already learned about their country in social studies.
