Sir, —Was Whim Wham pulling our legs when he made “Thalia” rhyme with “failure?" Or is this a new pronunciation of the Muse’s name?—Yours, etc., M.T. April 24, 1966. [Whim Wham comments: ‘As your erudite correspondent suspects, we do have here a new pronunciation of the Muse’s name. A ‘nonceprounciation,’ I am happy to assure him, perhaps a minor curiosity for future students of the text.”]
