(N.Z. Preus Association) PALMERSTON NORTH. Like other good jumpers raced by the Preston family, Montgomery, which won his first steeplechase on Saturday, “We bought him for <100," said his trainer. B. A. V. Preston. "He has more than paid his way.” Preston said that Montgomery was not nearly ready. "He would have blown you over after the race,” he said. "It was the same at Trentham, and it will be the same again at Te Rapa, because I cannot work him.” This was because the horse was so unsound.
