JUNIOR RED CROSS
Although membership of the North Canterbury Junior Red Cross has increased, several circles have gone into recess because leaders cannot be found from school staff or sub-centres, says the annual report. A total of £823 and 4616 goods were received by headquarters to be used for several overseas projects and local relief. Continued interest was shown in community services and the Good Neighbour Service. Contributions for the street stalls were excellent and more than £l5O was raised. After requests from the International Red Cross the council decided that all New Zealand circles would supply articles for development of certain areas. North Canterbury assisted all projects. Five new health classes were begun, and 968 certificates obtained, 243 with honours. Membership is now 3282, with 214 circles in 109 schools, says the report.
