Battle Recalled At Reception
HJff.N.Z.S. Pegasus was suitably dressed for hte reception last evening to commemorate the Battle of the Coral Sea. Flags of many nations hung from the ceiling and red white and blue bunting added vivid touches of colour. Vice-Admiral P. H. Ramsey, Deputy Chief of Nava) Operations (Air), United States Navy, and Mrs Ramsey, were guests of honour. They were welcomed b ythe hosts, Mr J .H. Wakefield, president of the Christchurch branch of the English Speaking Union, and Major F. H. Hagreen, president of the North American Club. A plaque from President I Johnson was presented by | Admiral Ramsey to the Mayor (Mr G. Manning) for the citi-| zens of Christchurch. Official guests included Mr ! and Mrs Manning, the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren), Admiral T. Okindine, United States Navy; Mr and Mrs C. S. Bowie; Mr H. B. Powell, United States Ambassador, and Mrs Powell; Father R. O’Gorman; Rear-Admiral J. O’C Ross; Brigadier T. C. Campbell and Mrs Campbell; Air Commodore D. F. H. St. George, and Mrs St. George; Commander R. F. Sanderson, and Mrs Sanderson; Commander W. H. Withrow and Mrs Withrow; the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk) and Mrs Kirk; Mr H. J. Walker, M.P.; and Sir Eruera Tirikatene, M.P., and Lady Tirikatene.
