TENNIS WINS
Canterbury Players "The Press" Special Service INVERCARGILL, May 16. Two Canterbury entrants did well in a sponsored junior tennis tournament at Riversdale today. N. Dillon, of Canterbury, eliminated the third seeded L. Smith, of Southland, in the first round of the under 15 boys’ singles. He played conconsistently from the baseline and took advantage of Smith’s errors at the net. Another Canterbury player, W. Pitama, beat K. Tangney, 9-1, in the first round of the under 17 boys’ singles and then Smith, 9-2, in the second round. Pitama is drawn to play I. Webster, of Southland, tomorrow, and if he won he would probably meet the national under 15 champion, C. Greendale, of Auckland. A left-hander, Pitama gained confidence in today's matches. Another Canterbury entrant R. Dillon, has not played yet.
