ALLOWED IN PORT
Crippled Soviet Ship Gone (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SAN FRANCISCO, May 15. A crippled Russian trawler was finally given official permission yesterday to enter an American port for emergency engine repairs, the Associated Press reported. But the trawler, the Chernjakhovski, which first asked permission to enter Drake’s Bay, 35 miles north of San Francisco, several days ago, was already sailing northwards along the coast. A United States Coast Guard spokesman said permission for entry into Drake’s Bay had been received in writing from the Treasury Department in Washington and would be relayed to the trawler. However, said the Coast Guard spokesman, the Russian captain might be “disgusted with the whole mess” and leave the area, United Press International reported.
