’Phone Cable Cut
One of the two trunk cables connecting Rangiora and Kaiapoi telephone subscribers with Christchurch was cut early yesterday afternoon by a contractor working on the Main North road near Factory road. A Post Office repair gang of about six men was splicing a new piece into the cable last evening, and probably would finish early this morning, said the Post Office regional engineer (Mr H. W. Wilkinson). Circuits within the other cable had been rearranged to provide a reduced service in the meantime. Kaiapoi subscribers were more likely to have calls delayed than subscribers served by the Rangiora and outlaying exchanges, Mr Wilkinson said.
