Two Declared Ineligible
(N.Z. Press Association) OAMARU. Mitzi, owned, trained and driven by D. C. Marsh, was declared ineligible to start at a totalisator meeting up to and including June 19, after the Horace Benson Handicap at Oamaru on Saturday. An Inquiry was held Into an accident at the top of the straight In the same race Involving Grand Finale and Idle Man. After hearing evidence from the stipendiary steward and D. J. Townley (Grand Finale), it was found that Grand Finale broke and fell when free of interference, causing Idle Man to fall. After considering previous performances it was decided to declare Grand Finale ineligible to start at a totalisator meeting up to and including June 19. An inquiry was held Into the breaking of Guyfa with a mile and a quarter to run in the North Otago Pace. After hearing T. M. May, the driver, and M. A. Watson (Battlefield), it was found Merry Morning left the fence when there was insufficient room, thus squeezing Battlefield into Guyfa. C. T. Woodward (Merry Morning) had his horseman’s licence suspended up to and including May 28.
