No Wool Sales At Gisborne Meantime
(New Zealand Press Association) GISBORNE, May 15. Neither Gisborne nor any other centre not at present included in the New Zealand wool sales roster will be considered for inclusion under existing conditions, it has been decided by the Wool Auction Sales Committee.
This is the effect of a motion adopted by the committee after a discussion in Wellington with a delegation from Federated Farmers, the Gisborne Woolbrokers* Association and the Gisborne Harbour Board.
The motion said, “That the Gisborne Federated Farmers’
representatives be informed that the Wool Auction Sales Committee is unable to agree at this stage to the establishment of any additional auction sales centre and that any further consideration by the committee would depend on actual developments involving increases in the volume of the wool clip as a whole and on production increases in particular districts, on changes in the volume of private sales and on shipments to London auctions: to findings by the Transport Commission; on shipping policy for exports to all destinations: and on the economics of any proposal for a sale at any particular centre.”
The object of the deputation was to secure consideration of wool sale dates for Gisborne to begin in 1969-70. The chairman of the committee (Mr G. A. Duncan) said the representations contained what he considered to be uncertain factors. The responsibility of the committee was to take the “wider view” in looking at the future prospects.
