FELL DOWN SHAFT
(N.Z. Press Association) HOKITIKA, May 15. A man’s body was recovered from the bottom of a 120 ft gold-mining shaft in bush country eight miles from Hokitika yesterday afternoon. He was Harold Thomas Surgenor, aged 65, married with four sons, of Rimu. Mr Surgenor left home at 9 a.m. to check stock in the area and when he did not return home a search was or■ganised. A dog that Mr Surgenor had taken with him led the searchers to the old shaft. The body was recovered by Mr D. Pfahlert. Search and Rescue Organisation controljler, who was lowered down the shaft on a rope.
