Effect Of Travel
(N.Z. Press Association) BLENHEIM, May 15. Travel had an impact on the social, cultural, and economic life of the community which could affect the lives of all in it, the New Zealand representative for the British Travel Association (Mr R. M. Firth) said yesterday. He was speaking at a tourist industry teachers' seminar conducted by the New Zealand Travel and Holidays Association at the Portage. “The business of travel consists of more than merely serving meals, providing beds, and transporting people for immediate gain,” he said. As scientific advances had brought easier communication and a greater desire for nations to understand one another, so the value of tourism throughout the world had become recognised as a potential power for good.
