SECRET TALKS

Brezhnev In

Rumania

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) BUCHAREST, May 15. Officials remained silent today on the results of three days of secret talks between the Soviet Communist leader, Mr Leonid Brezhnev and his Rumanian counterpart, Mr Nicolae Ceausescu. Although Mr Brezhnev ha’ reportedly left for Moscow no communique has so fa* been issued on the talks. Western diplomats believe the discussions ranged over urgent questions of the Warsaw Pact organisation, the Chinese-Soviet dispute and Vietnam. There was still no official word from Rumanian officials on the date of a visit to

Bucharest by the Chinese Prime Minister, Mr Chou Enlai, reported from Peking to be imminent.

Western diplomats in Bucharest have so far received little inkling of the reasons for Mr Brezhnev’s visit. But many believe it was in some way connected with a recent speech by Mr Ceausescu which seemed to indicate a lack of enthusiasm for Rumania's participation in the Warsaw Pact.

The speech stamped Rumania's independent nationalist line more firmly than before on its role in the Communist world.
