UNIVERSITY SIEGE
Army Call-up Protest (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) CHICAGO, May 15. About 350 weary but determined students have seized control of the University of Chicago’s administration building in protest against Army call-up being based on examination marks. The boys and girls control the six-storey building, keeping out all staff, except maintenance workers, and have brought university business almost to a halt. They object to a recent Draft Board ruling that examination results may be taken into consideration in deciding whether a student’s compulsory national service should be deferred. The students consider this discriminatory and undemocratic.
