25-Mile Cycle Titles To Games Trialists
Three Canterbury Empire Games trialists, J. H. Cleary (Papanui), T. J. Tabak (Avon) and C. B. Fitzgerald (Christchurch), won their respective club’s 25 miles championships on Saturday. All clubs ran their championships as time trials and Christchurch raced with Papanui. The fastest times were in the Papanui championship where Cleary just failed to break one hour but was still only 29sec faster than R. Hogan. The third-placed rider, P. A. Skilling, returned his best time for the event. There was an even closer tussle for the junior title, I. McLean beating B. G. Stockwell by only Ssec. Tabak won with ease from G. R. Sword and M. W. Lltolff, while the junior winner, D, Jones had a better time than the second senior rider. All the Christchurch club riders were off limit and Fitzgerald’s win was in his first road time trial.
