Orchestral Post
A New Zealander. Michael Maxwell, will become assistant manager of the Cleveland Orchestra, one of the “top six” American orchestras, on July 1, writes the London correspondent of “The Press.” Maxwell, a former Aucklander, was an officer of the New Zealand Broadcasting Service before leaving for England in 1959. He was appointed orchestra manager of the Philharmonia Orchestra of London a few months later, and remained in the capacity for four years. During that time he was associated with many eminent conductors and soloists in the concert hall and in the recording studio, and went on the orchestra's European and South American tours. In 1963 he organised and managed the North American tour of the Royal Philharmonie. After a holiday in New Zealand he was appointed manager of the newlyformed Princeton Chamber Orchestra in 1964.
