Royal Portrait Presented
A coloured portrait of the Queen Mother, presented by Her Majesty to H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus, the Canterbury division of the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve, was handed over in the Britannia at Lyttelton on Saturday morning. One of the Queen Mother’s forbears, William IV, commanded, as Prince William, a ship of the Royal Navy, H.M.S. Pegasus, in the days of sail. “Because of this association of names, Her Majesty ”ery graciously suggested that we accept this portrait of her,” said Commander R. F. Sanderson, officer commanding H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus. The portrait, a photographic reproduction, is about 24in by 18in.
