KAIKOURA LAND

An overflow meeting of 120 at Kaikoura on Thursday evening—there were others outside the door—seemed unanimously to favour retention of hospital property as a public reserve. The North Canterbury Hospital Board owns the property, bought in 1921 with money raised by public subscription and Government subsidy. It is no longer required for hospital purposes. The Ministry of Works wants a strip for railway housing. The total area is four acres and a half.

In view of the strong public opinion in favour of the land being a public reserve, the Hospital Board will consider how this might be accomplished. There are some legal problems.
