Car Falls 200ft Into River

A car crashed 200 ft from the Lewis Pass road into the Boyle river on Sunday. One of the occupants escaped unhurt; the other suffered only minor injuries.

Neville Cleave, of 5 Bendale place, was examined at the Christchurch Hospital but no injury could be found. Raymond Sim, of 153 Highsted road, suffered injuries to his chest. He was treated and dicharged. The car, when it left the road about one mile west of Patterson’s creek on the Lewis Pass road, travelled down a very steep slope for a distance of about three chains and came to rest on its side in the Boyle river, about a third of the way across.

The car lay in about a foot of water on a small gravel bank with deeper channels running on both sides. Ferry Road Crash.—Three people were injured when two cars collided in Ferry road near the Ferrymead bridge about 3.5 p.m. on Sunday. Mrs Myra Anne Newman, of 96 Hunter terrace, was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital with head injuries. Her condition last night was satisfactory. Her husband, Mr Ernest A. Newman, also suffered head injuries. He was treated and discharged. The third person, Mrs Mabel Ward, of 98 Hunter terrace, suffered injuries to her head and arm. She also was treated and discharged. Car Overturns.—Two persons were injured when their car overturned in Carlton Mill road soon after midnight on Saturday. Phillip Calwell,

of 276 Calwell street, and David Morten, of 32 Merivale lane, both suffered head injuries. They were admitted to the Christchurch Hospital and later discharged. Two Injured.—Ronald Bertenshaw, of 6 Renton street, suffered head injuries and Carmen Bertenshaw, of the same address, suffered chest injuries when two cars collided at the intersection of Hereford street and Oxford terrace about 11.15 a.m. yesterday. Both were treated at the Christchurch Hospital and discharged.

Man and Wife Hurt. —A man and his wife were injured when their car rolled in shingle on the Akaroa road about 6.30 p.m. on Sunday. Mrs Olive Faulls, of 25 Hills road, suffered abrasions to the back. She was treated and discharged. Her husband, Mr Reginald Morton Faulls, suffered arm injuries. He also was treated and discharged. Car Hits Pole. —A driver and his passenger were injured when the car in which they were travelling struck a pole in Everest street about 12.28 a.m. on Saturday. Mr B. Berry, of 14 Church square, suffered shock and a suspected fracture of the nose. His passenger, Miss Heather Buchanan, of 5 Everest street, suffered concussion and headinjuries. Both were treated at the Christchurch Hospital and discharged. Cars Collide.—One person was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital and another was treated and discharged after a collision involving two cars at the intersection of Fitzgerald avenue and St.

Asaph street about 11 p.m. on Saturday. Tamiaho Tekumeroa, of 150 Huxley street, was admitted to hospital with head injuries. His condition last night was satisfactory. Tai Gibson, of 81 King street, who also suffered head injuries, was treated and discharged. Church Corner Collision.— Two persons were injured when two cars collided at Church Corner about 8.35 p.m. on Saturday. Basil John Campbell, of 14 Garvins road, suffered injuries to his head. He was treated and discharged from the Christchurch Hospital. Stewart V. Eade, of 58 Springs road, suffered injuries to his head and arm. He also was treated and discharged. Waggon Over Foot.—Gregory Dolden, of 17 Toriess street, suffered injuries to his

left foot when it was run over by a railway waggon at Lyttelton about 5 p.m. on Saturday. He was admitted to hospital where his condition last night was satisfactory. Chest Injuries.—Errol Hussey, of 299 Waimairi road, suffered injuries to his chest after a car and a motor-cycle collided at the intersection of GrCers and Langdons roads about 5.15 p.m. on Saturday. He was treated at the Christchurch Hospital and discharged.

Man Hurt.—When two cars collided at the Intersection of Lincoln road and Nairn street about 6.30 p.m. on Saturday, Mr Morgan O’Brien of 19 Hanrahan road, suffered head injuries. He was treated at Christchurch Hospital and discharged.
