HOSPITAL VISIT

Queen Mother | At Cashmere The Royal entourage drove into the Princess Margaret Hospital grounds, past the nurses’ home, around the back of the hospital building, then up to the main doors. Nurses were lined up in front of the nurses’ home, and there were dense crowds all around the grounds. As the Royal car stopp d near the hospital entrance members of the crowd rushed from other parts of the grounds to surround the entourage, and the police had a busy time keeping spectators back. The Queen Mother alighted from the car, and was greeted at the entrance to the hospital by the chairman of the North Canterbury Hospital Board (Dr. L. C. L. Averill), the medical superintendent of the hospital (Dr R. C. Dick), the secretary of the hospital board (Mr J. G. Laurenson) and the matron of the hospital (Miss M. M. Darby).
