ROBIN DUNDEE ROYAL EASTER CUP FANCY

Lordship Another Unbeaten Finalist

Only bad luck in the running or tardy beginnings are expected to keep Robin Dundee and Lordship out of the finish of the £5lOO Royal Easter Cup Final at Addington Raceway this afternoon.

Both horses came through their qualify ing heats unbeaten, with Robin Dundee being, perhaps, a little more impressive than her younger rival.

Robin Dundee will give Lordship a start of 12 yards and her other rivals starts of up to 48 yards over the 13-furlong journey. The task of both of the backmarkers will be made more difficult by the class of the opposition.

All of their rivals have shown form of note in qualifying heats and the number of horses starting to fall away with three furlongs left will be much less than in the heats.

Two well-performed pacers on the front are Mist-r Chips and Wendy Dawn. They could well finish in front of their more-favoured rivals.

Mister Chips is at the improving stage and the Auck-land-owned four-year-old will have to improve very little on his second to Robin Dundee a fortnight ago to give his trainer-driver, J. S. Dalgety. his most important j success.

Wendy Dawn, a New Zealand Oaks winner earlier in her career, has raced most encouragingly lately and her work this week has been impressive. Only bad luck will stop her making a bold

showing. A win for any of the others would be a major surprise, but such a happening is far from an impossibilit . Bobbinet, Cloudy Bay, Waitaki Hanover, Golden Oriole. Doctor Barry and Space Cadet have all raced well enough at times to come out on top in this race.

Southland stables will have bright prospects of completing a notable double with Poupette to represent them in the second leg, the New Zealand Trotting Championship final.

In the autumn of 1965 Robin Dundee dead-heated for first with Jay Ar in the Inter-Dominion Championship Grand Final at Forbury Park, while Poupette won the corresponding final for trotters the same night. Mighty Chief will only have to trot solidly all the way to worry Poupette out of first place, while When will also be expected to make a bold showing. The form of a number of other candidates for this race during the four qualifying heats was good enough to suggest that the three horses named will not have things their own way. Asia Minor and Disband form a likely favourite combination for the on-course double, which will be run on the New Zealand Trotting Championship Consolation Race and the Royal Easter Cup Consolation Race. A few showers are forecast, but unless there is heavy rain, the track will be in good order.
