Education Post
Dr. K. J. Sheen will succeed Mr A. E. Campbell as Director-General of Education when Mr Campbell retires shortly. Dr. Sheen joined the department in 1953, was secretary of the Education Commission from 1960 to 1962 and was appointed assistant Director-General of Education in 1965. Early this year he represented New Zealand at a Geneva meeting held bv 1.L.0. and U.N.E.S.C.O. on the status of teachers. The State Services Commission announcing the appointment, said Dr. Sheen's experiences as a teacher, as secretary of the Education Commission and as New Zealand representative overseas equipped him well to deal with problems caused by the expanding school population and the new developments occurring in schools, in methods of teaching and in the training of teachers. —(P.A.)
