The appointee will be expected to take up duty as soon as posIsiblc. Candidates should have honours qualifications in Economic History or Economics (the latter being combined with an interest in the historical treatment of problems of economic development). ’ The Department of Economic i History is a department of the Faculty of Economics. It offers courses leading to the pass of honours degree of Bachelor of Arts -or Bachelor of Economics. Candidates are supervised for the degree of Master of Arts 1 or Master of Economics and of Doctor of Philosophy. The ! courses include studies of the modern development of selected economies, including the United Kingdom, United States of America, Australia, Japan, and the U.S.S.R., and the his- ’ tory of economic thought. Salary on appointment will be in accordance with qualifications and experience within the range 4800 x 220—6340 dollars per annum. School of General Studies. 3161 AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY SENIOR DEMONSTRATOR IN FORESTRY APPLICATIONS are invited for appointment to a new post of Senior Demonstrator in the Department of Forestry. The appointee will be expected to take up duty as soon as possible. Applicants should have a degree in Forestry or a related subject (e.g. botany, agriculture, pedology). Research experience in one of the following fields would be an advantage: (1) Tree breeding and genetics. (2) Soil development, classification and micro-biology. <3 Climatology. Whilst the appointee will be required to give some lectures and to assist with the organisation of practical classes, there will be opportunity for research and for co-operative investigations with staff members and research workers attached to the Department. The Department of Forestry offers a four-year course leading to a first degree in forestry and engages in postgraduate training and research. The head of the department is Professor J. D. Ovington. Salary on appointment will be in accordance with qualifications and experience within the range 4200 x 120—4680 dollars per annum. More than one appointment may be made. One of the appointees wild be required to take up duty as soon as possible. Good experience in both teaching and research is a minimum requirement for appointment at the level of Senior Lecturer. The Department of Pure Mathematics under Professor Hanna Neumann and the Department of Applied Mathematics under Professor A. Brown are jointly responsible for the teaching of mathematics courses leading to the pass and honours degrees of Bachelor in Arts or Science. Students are also supervised for the degrees of Master and Doctor of philosophy.
