PARKING FEES
Council Is Considering
The question of fees for the Christchurch City Council’s parking building was at present under consideration, the Automobile Association (Canterbury) was told in a letter received at its meeting on Thursday evening from the council.
The letter said it is generally felt that the Christchurch motorist was not parking-building conscious at the moment, “and is, in fact, a little hesitant to undertake the first venture into an enclosed building. “There is also the possibility that many motorists are unaware of the existence of these buildings and are content to search continually for metered areas.”
The letter said it was generally felt that the Christchurch motorist was not patronage at the building was not limited to the Manchester park alone, but was reflected in other private enterprise buildings in the city. Mr E. R. Casbolt said there should be some incentive for people to walk to and from the building otherwise they would park nearer their destination in a metered space. From the council’s letter it was apparent some consideration was being given to the reduction of fees.
