BARKING DOGS
Action Against
Owners
“The Press’* Special Service AUCKLAND. April 22.
Action will be taken against owners of dogs which bark or howl at night in Mount Roskill.
The Mount Roskill Borough Council has decided to tighten its by-laws governing the keeping of animals, poultry and bees. In future, no person will be allowed to keep an animal or bird which causes a serious nuisance to residents in the neighbourhood. Proceedings will not be taken against any person for an offence under this cause in the by-law until two weeks after a notice of complaint has been received by the council, signed by not less than three householders residing within hearing of the animal or bird causing the alleged nuisance.
The council has also confirmed a by-law forbidding animals to be at large between half an hour after sunset and half an hour before sunrise.
The by-law says any dog on the streets during that time must be on a leash. Offenders against will be liable to a fine not exceeding £5O.
