Former Riccarton H.S. Pupils Meet
“It is natural that a family of human beings should wish to renew acquaintanceships, show mutual respect and share pleasant memories,” said the headmaster of Riceart on High School (Mr A. J. Gainsford) at the inaugural annual meeting of the Riccarton High School ExPupils’ Asociation on Thursday evening. He was addressing about 75 former pupils in the school assembly hall. “That you have progressed in your various callings has been a matter of great satisfaction to your teachers,” said Mr Gainsford. “They rejoice with you in your successes and feel for you in your reverses.” An honours board was unveiled by the chairman of the board of governors (Mr M. C. Butler). The honours board shows house champions, head prefects, general excellence scholars and special achievements by former pupils. “Goodwill, a friendly atmosphere and progressive thought should be strong within the association,” said Mr Butler. “Here is a chance to give
greater strength to what is already there Riccarton High School.” During the evening former pupils were shown around by present students. This was followed by the screening of a film and slides of the school’s first year. Guest speakers were two members of the Linwood High School Ex-Pupils Association who explained the principles of their association and difficulties that could be faced. Officers elected were: Patron, Mr A. J. Gainsford; president Mr J. Williamson; vice-presidents, Misses B. Jones and G. Heaton; secre-tary-treasurer Mr H. Weatherhead; committee, Mrs G.
